Argumentation and Advocacy: This course focused on learning how to form arguments and speeches. Being an oral intensive course, we gave three speeches about different issues that were important to us. My speech topics were about the harmful effects of drinking and driving, Title IX and how college administration needs to treat victims of sexual violence better, and the effects of the stigmas that surround mental illness. Special Topics: Stories, Story Telling, And Social Justice: While I already knew I would be majoring in Social Justice, this course helped me realize my concentration of Social Change Through the Arts. We read from scholars and artists alike who used different story telling platforms, such as slam poetry and oral stories, to spread a message of social change. At the end, we created our own story with a message for change. |
